Academic Advising provides an opportunity for each student to meet individually with their counselor to discuss their academic progress toward graduation, post-high school goals, personal interests.

Timeline:

  • January 19-27, 2023: Teachers discuss course options with students and make recommendations based on student performance, potential, and interest.
    • Students and parents/guardians should speak with their teacher(s) if they have questions regarding specific course recommendations
  • January 28 - February 3, 2023: Students and parents/guardians can review, accept, and/or change recommended courses and add or remove requests by logging into StudentVUE or ParentVUE and clicking the “Course Request” tab.
    • Please call 703-365-2900 to speak with our Parent Liaisons, Dr. Perez or Mr. Mendez, if you need assistance setting up ParentVUE
    • Although the window to enter requests closes, we encourage students, parents/guardians, and teachers to continue discussion about what is in the student’s best interest regarding course selection.
    • Student-counselor meetings occur regardless of completing this step
  • Mid-February – March: Students will meet with their counselors to select their seven courses and three alternates.
  • April course request verification sent home
  • May 31: Deadline for students to submit course request changes. Changes will be visible in StudentVUE/ParentVUE within one week of the student submitting the change request.
    • Students may request changes for course selections and alternates as many times as they desire until the deadline.
  • June: Course requests may be adjusted based on student performance, teacher recommendation, and assessment information.
  • August: Course requests may be adjusted based on any summer school coursework
