Students develop skills in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. They also study electrical theory, navigate the National Electrical Code Book, select and install conductors, and work with panelboards, switchboards, and generators.

Students participating in this program will transfer to the program location for all courses and activities.
Express bus transportation is available to accepted students living outside the program location boundaries through Specialty Program Transportation.
The Electricity Program at Unity Reed High School is a trade and industry specialty program on its own, but also can be used as a career-related study path for the IB Career Programme. It is taught by a professional electrician currently working in the field and is partnered with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

This course provides students with marketable, job-specific skills, workplace readiness skills, and an industry certification upon high school graduation. Students develop skills in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. They also study electrical theory, navigate the National Electrical Code Book, select and install conductors, and work with panel boards, switchboards, and generators. Students have the option to enter the job market directly or continue their studies via a college program, technical school, or apprenticeship program. Students completing the two-year electrical sequence have the opportunity to earn an industry credential (OSHA-500 Certification).
Electricity II students continue to develop skills in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. They also study electrical theory and mathematical problems related to electricity, navigate the National Electrical Code Book, select and install conductors, examine lighting, communication, and power systems, and work with conduit and raceways, panelboards, switchboards, grounding systems, and generators.
Successful candidates for the program should meet the following criteria:
**If a counselor or administrator feels strongly that a student would succeed in this program who does not meet the above criteria, an appeal may be made to the Trade & Industry Specialty Coordinator in conjunction with the faculty member teaching the course.
